Americans produce the equivalent to 82,000 football fields 30 feet deep per year in trash. This amount is astounding and think about how much it would be in one hundred years (8,200,000 football fields of trash.) Considering the population is growing more rapidly than one would imagine, this number per year could easily increase next year, and every year after that. An easy solution to this growing issue would obviously be to recycle. The problems to the solution are that most people have to pay to get a recycling truck to come to their house and some people don't want to spend the extra money. Another problem is that a lot of people are just too lazy to put a plastic bottle in a recycling bin rather than the trashcan. My opinion is that people should put forth a little extra effort and recycle to improve the earth and use up less wasted space on creating growing landfills.
One of my favorite pastimes is backpacking, so the backcountry is very important to me. I would hate to see all of America's wilderness taken up to be filled with trash! My family recycles everything that's recyclable, it's really not that hard. I wish people would take just a little bit of effort to save the wild places the US has left. Even if most people love cities and never go camping or hiking, there are people (like me) who do, but we can't save the earth by ourselves. The earth is a place for everyone, so it takes everyone to protect it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that we definitely need to start recycling more often, because it is very important. People don’t really understand how it affects us when we just keep collecting garbage instead of recycling it. I understand that some people feel like it is hard to recycle when they only have a garbage truck that comes to their house and not a recycling truck. I think one way to inspire more people to recycle would be to maybe lower the price of having a recycling truck going to peoples’ houses, or even find a way for one truck to collect garbage and recyclables.
