Southern Right Whales: Dying In Argentina

right whale mother and calf

Southern right whales that are located in the Peninsula Valdes, Argentina are much endangered. Over 605 whales have died since 2003. Scientist are having a huge difficulty trying to figure out what all the deaths of whales and calves are caused from.  Marcela Uhart, Co-Director of the program, said that they took several tissue samples from the dead whales and thought the cause of the deaths were infectious, toxic and other strong diseases among the coast. But to this day they are still unable to figure out what the problem is; whether it is global warming or killing from other sea creatures. Also there is much concern of reproduction of the whales for the future, the scientist are scared for extinction. The most that we can do right now is to continue the research and try to find out all the information we can to help the whales survive. I believe that with the research being continued it will have a effect of the whales lives and the problem will be figured out. It is also very important to keep our oceans clean because if it is the toxics causing the deaths it is possible to be stopped. We need to keep the whales and calves safe and away from extinction if all is possible.
