Most people don’t think it matters where they put trash, but
they couldn’t be more wrong. Firstly you can be charged up to 1,000 dollars for
littering. Second of all trash is prone to
germs and they can make you sick. Thirdly litter can take years to
decompose. According to Environmental Impact: Project litter “75 percent of
people admit to littering in the last 5 years” They also say “1.9 billion tons
of litter ends up in the ocean every year
The Environmental Impact: Project litter decided that they
were going to do something about the litter. They picked up trash in a park.
You can make a difference like they did. This environmental problem has a very
simple solution. Don’t litter and if you see trash on the ground pick it up.
But the biggest barrier is that people don’t want to pick up after themselves.
My thoughts are if you make a mess you need to clean it up!
Litter Laws
ReplyDeleteI think that stricter laws need to be enforced to prevent people from littering, as we do not emphasize exactly how detrimental the act can be to our surroundings.
I think that people constantly trivialize how bad littering really is and how big of an effect it has had on our planet. There are so many things that we can do to help advertise this problem more; for instance, all of the commercials telling people the effects of smoking cigarettes on their bodies should also be advertising the effects that their littered cigarette buds are leaving on the planet. Also, programs like riversweep and other things for cleaning litter should maybe be done more than once a year or in multiple locations to help get as much litter picked up as possible.
