Automakers Scrambling for New Fuel-Efficient Ideas

Mazda has decided to allow a quick sneak peek at its CX-5, the new crossover designed to increase both performance and fuel-efficiency. Because of the new legislation requiring the CAFE (corporate average fuel economy) to be boosted to 54.5 mpg by 2025, automotive companies country-wide are working harder than ever to produce new fuel-sensible ideas. Mazda's CX-5 is one of the leaders in this race, showcasing the new SkyActiv powertrain. New powertrains such as this will lead to cleaner diesels, more gears in automatics, and severe downsizing, all by 2025. The new CAFE rules, in the long run, should help the country produce much more enviromentally friendly and cost-cutting models, with the only possible setbacks being vehicle performance, which most likely should be raised as well. I endorse the new CAFE rules and the resulting hard-work by automakers, as in order to improve, we must hold ourselves to a much higher standard of quality.

  1. I think it's great that there are figuring out new was to make better fuel-efficient cars. I mean, with these high gas prices, I would want to buy a better car so I don't have to spend so much money on gas. I believe that the CAFE rules will lead America to a new age of higher quality cars.

  2. I agree that finding new fuel sources is incredibly important. Year after year, Americans as well as the rest of the world, rely more heavily on cheap, environmentally friendly transportation options. And as technology advances, it gets easier and easier to pursue these economical and environmental options for fuel. And quality is definitely more important than quantity. Most of the time, the only thing keeping car companies from switching over to more fuel efficient options is the initial cost.
