Rising Antarctica?

Antarctica is slowly rising above sea-level due climate change. It is losing about 200 gigatons of ice per year and Greenland is losing 300 gigatons. Due to this loss of ice, both areas are becoming more buoyant. There is also some left over upward momentum from the last ice age that is increasing height is well. A rising Antarctica isn’t much of a problem but the loss of ice and gain in sea level is. Of course, this has been a problem for the last thirty years because of pollution and greenhouse gases. This can be solved by reducing emissions and finding better ways to get rid of pollution. I feel that this should be a world wide effort to reduce emissions and save the planet, including the rising Antarctic.

  1. I agree with you comments except that “rising Antarctica isn’t much of a problem”. Very small disturbances in any ecosystem can severely damage the delicate balance of the inhabitant animals. The height of Antarctica may not matter much at the moment but it may be only a matter of time until something like penguins not being able to safely dive into the water to completely destroy the ecosystem. I do agree, however, that we must do all that we can to curb climate change and protect the environment.

  2. I agree that there should be a world wide effort to reduce emissions. But most of the time people just don't know what to do to help. A lot of the time, ignorance is the greatest source of error. So I also want to add that people who know about steps to reduce emissions should look to educating those who don't. Make it go viral! And I also agree with Kirk that the rising Antarctic is a problem. Any change in the earth can present problems.
