First Driverless Vehicle To Hit Roads

A greener world. That is what people have been striving to achieve for many years, and it looks like we have just made another significant step in the right direction. On Friday it was announced that scientists in Singapore have unveiled the world's first unmanned, green vehicle. The shuttle, which reaches a maximum speed of 20.1 km/h, can seat up to eight people and relies entirely off of its rechargeable battery for power and is the first autonomous vehicle in Singapore: Making it the first technology of its kind.

This is an excellent step in the right direction for greener transportation and could mean that even more advanced forms of clean transportation could be on the horizon. I think it is amazing that this type of technology has been invented and is being tested out, and I think humans would be well-served to build off of it moving forward, expanding its capabilities. A problem that may present itself, however, is that this shuttle is both slow and impractical right now. A solution to this problem, however, would be to increase the shuttle's speed and mass-producing it to make it more available to the public. While this form of transportation is definitely a long way away from being a practical form of transporation, it is definitely nice to see that progress is being made.

  1. It kind of looks like a golf cart. Is it legal on the main roads of Singapore? And what about in the US? If it were to be brought over, which I am sure it eventually will be, would we be allowed to drive it around, if not on the roads then at least on a golf course or something? I think it is amazing how advanced our technology has become. To think that less than a hundred years ago we were still driving crank cars, some of which were merely motorized wagons! Which makes me think that soon these shuttles will be made into full-out cars, reaching normal speeds.
Speaking of cars, this seems a little similar to the Google car in California, although I don't think the Google car uses that much green technology. Could this invention possibly compete with the Google company to create the first completely green, unmanned, safe car reaching normal road speeds? If so then I am sure we will see some major changes in vehicle manufacturing in the near future!

  2. That vehicle is so cool. Technology is getting so advanced that soon we won’t have to know how to drive anymore. I cannot get it out of my mind that it drives itself and is powered by electricity. Who knows what is behind the horizon. Scientist are inventing so many things that can benefit everyone. It is exciting to get to see these types of things unfold as time goes by and technology improves. I think now scientist are now knowing how to help the environment more and are creating things that will not harm the earth because of that knowledge. It is a really good thing to know that technology can keep getting better without harmful effects.
