In Hawaii monk seals native to region have experienced an
increase in their population. Hawaiian
fisherman fear that the new increase in the seal population will be bad for business
and will lead to decrease in their money and they won’t be able to support
their family. They believe that the monk
seals eat tons of fish a day and there will not be enough fish to catch. Charles Litnan is in charge of an experiment
to see if the locals’ allegations are true.
Him and his team placed critter cams on the seals and used local high
school students to watch the videos that were gathered. When the students said that with the videos
they seen the monk seal did not eat tons of fish a day and that it should not affect
how much fish fisherman were able to collect.
Some of the locals did not believe what the students said about the
seals was true. I can’t believe some of
the locals didn’t believe the students. They
wouldn’t lie about what they seen on video with their own eyes.
