New ways to prevent black outs.

Following the great power outage in New England in 2003, researchers have scrambled to discover brand new revolutionary technology that can help conserve energy. Two interesting new instruments can both help conserve energy, and predict a power outage and help solve the issues causing surge prior to draining the power from thousands of people. Now these instruments, phasor measurement units, are now being installed in thousands of homes across the East coast. They work by measuring the capacity of energy flow at different points in the power grid, allowing for proper energy conservation and surge prevention. There are also significant improvements to the grid that will ensure proper distribution of energy. In my opinion, I think that it is a good thing to try and prevent massive blackouts. However, I don't think blackouts on a minor scale are something to worry about.

  1. That's awesome that they finally discovered new insturments that can help conserve energy to lessen the possibility of a power outage. However, it seems weird that the great power outage happened in 2003 and it has taken them this long to discover new instuments to prevent it from happening. I think it's neat how it measures the capacity of energy flow at different points on the power grid but I agree with you Victoria, blackouts are not somethings Americans stress too much in todays society.
